Good Company Magazine Masthead and Issue 2 Cover

Created by Design*Sponge founder Grace Bonney, Good Company Magazine is the new project informed and inspired by her book, In the Company of Women.

Seeking a redesign after issue #1, George McCalman (who designs the magazine) called on me as someone he knew could create both type and lettering options for the logo that would be the masthead from here on out, starting with Issue #2.

The primary direction for this logo was to lend an element of approachability, energy, and humanity. I translated into a design with bold lines, playful angles, and some softness via curves and texture, creating a vibe to mirror the magazine’s tone of strength, openness, capability, and enthusiasm. The Design*Sponge blog states it best:

“With its emphasis on the power of inclusivity, community, and embracing our differences, Good Company  provides an energetic, safe, and supportive place to connect, learn, grow, and work through the challenges that creative people experience in pursuing their passions and dreams.”

Lastly, this note cannot live here without an expression of my gratitude to both George and Grace for their ardent trust and openness to my ideas here. Thanks, you two. This project was a dream!
